If you’re in recovery from a drug and alcohol addiction you may find you are lacking structure and support and perhaps feel isolated. Sometimes it’s difficult to know how to fill your time and trying new things and meeting new people can feel intimidating. With this in mind, Build on Belief is opening a recovery café in Ealing where you can drop in free of charge and take part in a range of activities throughout the week. Whether you just want to be around people in a similar situation and have a chat over a cup of coffee or if you’re keen to take part in support groups or find an expression for your creative side, we hope you’ll find there’s something on offer for you.

Build on Belief is delighted to be working in partnership with both RISE, the Ealing Service Provider Partnership, and SURGE (the Ealing Service User Group) to ensure that the recovery café is based upon the needs of local service users.

BUILD ON BELIEF
WHAT DO THE VOLUNTEERS IN EALING THINK OF THE Ealing SOCIAL CLUB?

The first day I came
Thought it was just a game
The people I met
Were not ready yet
There seemed no conviction
To stop their addiction

Then Linda explained
It takes time in the main
Maybe a year maybe a week
For the help people seek

After less than a year
I’m a BOB volunteer
My work satisfaction
Is the client’s reaction
To a gentle nudge
Knowing that we don’t judge

Bob is a haven
For when you are craving
We don’t have a cure
But our care is honest and pure!

I have been volunteering with RISE a little over 6 months now and still find it extremely rewarding and wish I could dedicate more time.

I can remember the first day I approached Barry, to find out what was going on inside and Barry warmly invited me in and presented me with a leaflet.

On my Induction I met with Linda Chan, who went through all the protocol. Linda, was exceptionally kind and allowed me to volunteer at weekends.

I was a bit apprehensive at first, as I did not know what to expect.

I quickly got use to the team and service users. I love serving teas, coffees and making sandwiches (took me awhile to remember everyone’s usual orders)

I can recall seeing the glasses with the Alcohol Measurements and thinking:

I’m now learning about Units and the recommended daily allowance. ( It is so easy to over drink)

The groups, such as music classes are very rewarding and beneficial for recovery.

Another thing that I really enjoy is talking to the service users and sharing life experiences.

RISE Recovery Café is providing an extremely useful service for the Ealing Community.

Thank you for being part of your team.
Kind regards
Natalie Simon
