After a colourful and reckless past, a chance meeting at a fun day with a BOB volunteer led me to see what Build on Belief was all about.
Knowing very little about the organisation I walked into the Ealing BOB to find out more.
I had previously worked with the homeless and with substance abuse so was intrigued to see what BOB could do to help service users and how they did it.
Within weeks I was volunteering there. Working in a doctor’s surgery during the week and volunteering at the weekends. It soon became crystal clear to me which I enjoyed more and which one I had a real passion for.
The energy compassion and knowledge of the managers at Ealing was infectious. I went from volunteer to team leader and after training and guidance I was encouraged to apply for a manager’s position in Harrow. (a borough I had grown up in incidentally) but had left over 30yrs ago.
The rest they say is history, or a work in progress.
I now ‘Build on Belief’ literally..
I believe with the right support encouragment and assistance people can build, change, recover and achieve.
